Teaching
Over the last year I have been a lab demonstrator and teaching assistant at Abertay University. I was working on 2 modules which included Audio for Games and How Big Is Infinity.
Audio for Games involved me giving weekly lectures on studio equipment, Pro Tools, implementation of audio to game engines and the fundamentals of sound design to first year students. It was a great experience helping the students and spending my time answering questions, to ensure they got the audio they wanted for the projects. I would focus heavily on both practical and theory, ensuring the ability to understand exactly how the studio at the university worked and what important steps to take when recording on location. As well as this I gave a few presentations on the work of Michel Chion, exploring the book "Audio-Vision" and the phenomenon Synchresis.
How Big Is Infinity was a conceptual module on research and understanding/gathering information on your own projects. The class was an open discussion on concepts and scientific theories including Infinity, Einstein's Theories of Relativity, Quantum Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence. It was a way of engaging first year students in the more difficult application of learning and how to use concepts you might not fully understand but have grasped a general idea of. It also investigated serendipity in their work and findings. As well as the classes material such as the Infinite Monkey Cage Podcast, BBC Horizon documentaries and the importance of academic papers when presenting results and findings was discussed.
