Elk
Wee Door
Elk is a 2D stealth puzzle game by Wee Door. Inspired by games Limbo and Alto's Adventure as well as the Scottish Highlands. You are separated from the herd and now trying to return, as hunters attempt to capture you. It features a unique visual style, using stop-motion animation, merging traditional methods with new technology. The game was made for iOS.
Elk was chosen to be a part of the Dare To Be Digital 2016 competition. The game is currently still a work in progress. To find out more about Elk you can visit the website here: http://www.weedoor.co/elk
I used WWise and Unity to implement all the audio for the game focusing on two counter-points, the Elk and Hunters. The Hunter's appearance features distorted and digital musical elements signifying their harsh intentions, as opposed to the Elk's natural and acoustic sounds.
The game is minimal in its visual cues so audio was used to guide the player more. Elements, such as the birds, use sound to draw the players attention to them, introducing layers the player has not heard before. It was important to create natural authentic sounds for the game so all effects and ambience featured were recorded on location, including local Scottish woods and wildlife.
